A devotional ritual performed by waving a lamp with ghee, oil or camphor in front of a Deity or a divine personality, often accompanied by singing devotional songs.
LEARN MORE
While performing the aarti, the devotee should consciously create a feeling of imbuing divine energy into the kindled lamp. Once the circumambulation is complete, the devotee performs the act of "taking aarti", which signifies absorbing that divine energy: run your hands over the flame and touch your eyes and head with those hands. The spiritual results of aarti are entirely dependent on divine feelings (bhava). Perform the aarti to show your sincere love and reverence to God and Guru. Without such divine feelings, the actions of aarti are merely a physical drill and yield no spiritual results.
