Devanagari: आनंद ISO15919: ānaṁda also written as anand

Bliss, happiness, joy. The Vedas proclaim that God is ananda. They define ananda as happiness with the following traits:

  1. Unlimited: no other bliss surpasses it in magnitude
  2. Eternal: it does not cease one day
  3. Ever new: it always feels new and never goes stale
  4. Ever increasing: constantly increases in magnitude
  5. Conscious: it is sat or sentient
  6. Omniscient: it is chit or all-knowing.

Sat and chit are adjectives of ananda. If happiness does not have these traits, then it is called asat ananda.
