This epithet is used for the jnanis (self-realised souls) because all their material desires are annihilated. As a result, they become oblivious to the external world and develop a state of indifference towards worldly affection—they do not love anyone, regardless of whether others love them or not. Crucially, aptakama is also used for Shri Krishna. While the jnanis achieve this state through annihilation of desires, Shri Krishna is eternally aptakama by nature, being the embodiment of complete fulfilment
