To sacrifice oneself on someone or something is the most profound meaning of the two. To be so grateful or devoted to someone that you would be willing to sacrifice yourself for their well-being or honour. A sadhaka is expressing that the object of their love is worthy of their entire being.
The secondary meaning – sarcasm and astonishment – uses the concept of “total sacrifice” in a satricial way to express disbelief or pity for a poor decision. Colloquially or sarcastically, it is used to suggest an action was foolish or completely wasted, lamenting someone’s ignorance or misdirection.
