A category of spiritual practitioner who perceives God within everything and therefore does not get attached. A hansa-saint lives in the world of duality but chooses only the eternal, the paramhansa sees only the self everywhere and the shri paramhansa sees only his beloved everywhere.

This bird has a peculiar ability. If presented with milk mixed with water, it will drink the milk and not the water. It is this unique characteristic of this bird that is used in the scriptures to describe a quality of devotees (bhakt) of The Supreme Lord.
