Unlike the devotee who relies on grace, the jnani (a follower of the path of jnana-marg and jnanayoga) relies on their own strength of intellect and discrimination. Their ultimate objective is liberation - to merge their individual identity into the Supreme, thereby eliminating the triputi (the distinction between knower, knowledge and known).
