Nirguna bhakti refers to transcendental devotion. It denotes devotion that is completely free from the influence of the three modes (gunas) of material nature (maya): ignorance, passion and goodness. It is situated in pure transcendence. This type of devotion is causeless and unceasing. It is performed with the single-pointed aim of pleasing God, without any desire for material gain, liberation or personal happiness.
