The five sheaths or coverings of maya that cover the mind (antahakarana) of an individual soul: annamaya, pranamaya, manomaya, vijnanamaya and anandamaya kosha

LEARN MORE

Each sheath is called a kosha (Devanagari: कोश ISO15919: kośa) and collectively these five sheaths are called panchakosha (Devanagari: पंचकोश ISO15919: paṁcakośa): annamaya kosha – the food sheath, pranamaya kosha – consisting of the five life airs, manomaya kosha – the mental sheath consisting of the mind, vijnanamaya kosha – consisting of the intellect and comprising the subtle body and the anandamaya kosha – the bliss shealth comprising the causal body.

When you cross vijnanamaya kosha and reach anandamaya kosha, you will experience great pleasure. However, this is the ultimate point of danger. It is only upon crossing all five that you attain the ultimate bliss. Currently, we are wandering in the first kosha, annamaya.
