LEARN MORE

In Indian literature, the sound of its distinctive cu-coo call is considered very sweet and soothing. The bird is also criticised in literature for duping crows into rearing its chicks. The bird does not make its own nest, and instead lays its eggs in the nest of a crow and they rear its offspring. It is also called a papihara (Devnanagari: पपीहरा ISO15919: papīharā) or koyal (Devnanagari: कोयल ISO15919: koyala).
