Prema (divine love) represents the first or initial level of divine attainment. It marks the point where the devotee has transcended material attachment and attained the direct grace of God. However, within the realm of divine love, there are still seven higher levels of intensity, characterised by increasing degrees of intimacy and selflessness: sneha (affection), maan (loving pique), pranaya (intimacy), raga (attachment), anuraga (deep attachment), bhava (ecstasy), mahabhava (supreme ecstasy).
