It manifests as the standing on end of the body's hair due to intense spiritual emotion. Unlike ordinary goosebumps caused by cold or fear, this physical reaction is triggered by waves of divine bliss (ananda) or overwhelming love for God. This involuntary bodily transformation is classified as one of the eight symptoms of divine love ecstasy (ashta sattvika bhava). These signs appear only when the heart is saturated with God's divine love.
