According to the Ramayana, when Lakshmana was struck by the deadly weapon naag pash during the battle against Meghnath, Hanumana flew overnight from Lanka to the Himalayas to find the sanjivani herb. Unable to identify the exact plant, he lifted the entire mountain (Dronagiri) and brought it back. Sushen Vaidya recognised the herb and used it to revive Lakshmana.
