The material mode of purity and goodness.
LEARN MORE
One of the three fundamental forces (gunas) of maya that govern the material world. It is superior to the other two modes, rajasa (passion) and tama (ignorance). Although sattva guna is the mode of goodness, it is still a binding force of maya. While rajasa and tama bind the soul with iron chains of passion and sleep, sattva binds the soul with "golden chains"—creating an attachment to happiness and knowledge, which keeps the soul tied to the material realm.
Also written as sattvika guna (Devanagari: सात्विक गुण ISO15919: sattvika guṇa).
