The eightfold process of yoga propagated by Sage Patanjali: yama - moral codes, niyama - self-purification and study, asana - posture, pranayama - breath control, and pratyahara - withdrawing the mind from the senses. The remaining three: dharana - concentration, dhyana - deep meditation, and samadhi - union with the object of meditation are compulsory for the spiritual edification of the soul, thereby promoting the upliftment of the body and the soul.
