The effect of this initiation should be as profound as it was for Chaitanya Mahaprabhu when Ishvarapuri whispered the mantra in Mahaprabhu Ji's ears. Some so-called holy men make disciples by whispering a word or Vedic mantra in the ear. This practise is commonly referred to as diksha dena (Devanagari: दीक्षा देना ISO15919: dīkṣā denā), mantra phoonkna (Devanagari: मंत्र फूंकना ISO15919: maṁtra phūṁkanā) meaning "to whisper a mantra," mantra dena (Devanagari: मंत्र देना ISO15919: maṁtra denā) meaning "to give a mantra." However, this type of initiation is not the true meaning of diksha. In fact, this practice contradicts Vedic philosophy. Such holy men and their disciples both end up in narak.
