Devanagari: मुक्ति ISO15919: mukti

Freedom or liberation from the bondage of maya. Also called moksha (Devanagari: मोक्ष ISO15919: mokṣa). It is of five kinds: sarshti - attaining equality with God in opulence, samipya - living in close proximity of God, salokya - living in the same abode of God, sarupya - having the same four-armed form as God and sayujya (also called kaivalya or ekatva) - merging into the Impersonal Brahm.

A person committed a crime and was imprisoned for it. After serving his sentence, he is free to walk away. In a spiritual context, the soul (jiva) has been defying divine laws since beginningless time, and so it has been in this samsara under the bondage of maya. Liberation from this bondage is called mukti.
