Devanagari: गुण ISO15919: guṇa also written as gun
A quality of maya. Maya has three qualities which are collectively referred to as triguna (Devanagari: त्रिगुण ISO15919: triguṇa): sattvik guna - goodness, symbolised by the colour white, rajasik guna - passion, symbolised by the colour red and tamasik guna- ignorance, symbolised by the colour black. Each of these are superior to the subsequent ones and yet one needs to rise above all of them to attain God.
